guitar
noun [C] a musical instrument with six strings and a long neck which is usually made of wood, and which is played by pulling or hitting the strings with the fingers The two main types of guitar are the acoustic guitar (Cambridge International Dictionary of English) Strumming. Thrumming. Trying to play A minor, E minor, C, G and G7. F without the barre chord. Anyone who ever started to play guitar has done this. Many people were put off at an early stage: they never played anything better than a plywood copy or an acoustic with a warped telegraph pole for a neck. Others of us kept strumming on, even if we knew we would never be good enough to play in the local garage band, never mind play in front of an audience. But there’s something about strumming and thrumming which is extremely soothing for the unmusical. We know we’ll never ever learn a song all the way through, or ever be able to play the fiddly bit that the 12-year-old smart-arse in the guitar shop impressed us with.
